“In life, it’s not where you go. It’s who you travel with.”
- Charles Schulz

This is one of the top questions we receive from KB brides when they start planning their day. We recommend having your makeup applied and hairstyle polished about three hours before your ceremony if you’re on location. If you’re being styled off-site, allow for an additional hour just to be safe.

WHEN SHOULD I BE READY?

First, make a list of everyone who is getting their hair and makeup done. This may include bridesmaids, the mother of the bride and the groom, and you, of course! Plan for each person to take 90 minutes to leave a little wiggle room in your day-of schedule.

How much time should i plan per person?

It can be a total lifesaver to have multiple stylists working on people simultaneously so everything runs smoothly and on time. You can choose to book a salon of stylists or an onsite multi-stylist team. If you have a specific stylist you want to do your hair and makeup, be sure to request them before your wedding so they can work solely on you. If you need recommendations, we’re happy to help you find a great fit for your big day. Just shoot us an email!

how can i speed up the process?

You can choose to keep your makeup or hair stylist onsite for touch-ups after your ceremony, which can be helpful in extreme weather conditions (like heat and rain), but we always recommend keeping a small makeup kit on hand. You can fill it with powder, concealer, lipstick, mascara, and a few bobby pins. Your mom or a bridesmaid can be in charge of keeping the kit safe throughout your wedding day.

HOW SHOULD I ANTICIPATE TOUCH-UPS?

GETTING READY FOR THE DAY

frequently asked questions

The last thing you want to worry about on your wedding day is keeping the getting ready room clean and organized. Instead, ask a personal attendant or a few of your bridesmaids to tidy up the room before the ceremony. They will be happy to help!

ASSIGN SOMEONE TO HELP

If the ceremony venue has a room in a dark basement or it doesn’t offer the look you want for your photographs, don’t panic! You may decide it’s worth getting ready elsewhere. Past KB brides have chosen to get ready in hotel suites, a friend’s home, or even in their childhood homes. Just make sure to leave enough room for travel if you’re getting ready in another location.

CONSIDER AN OFF-SITE LOCATION

Remember when we talked about how important light is in photography? Having a getting ready room with windows will greatly help with capturing photographs and will renew your energy for the big day.

CHOOSE A ROOM WITH NATURAL LIGHT

Your getting ready room will not only be a place to share laughs, drinks, and tears with your bridesmaids. It will also be your retreat, your designated place of rest throughout the big day. Keeping your getting ready room organized not only helps us as photographers but also minimizes stress and nerves before your ceremony. It’s a must!

We prefer to take bridal party portraits before the ceremony so we can jump right into the cocktail hour after you exchange vows. This will help with the overall flow of events of your day and give you more private time to spend with one another before the reception.

We’ll photograph the guys first (they will be the most antsy!) and move onto the girls before taking photos of everyone together. We can’t wait to have fun with your closest group of friends and capture images that tell the story of your lifelong friendships!

Although we appreciate a shot or mimosa (or two,) having a party bus in between the ceremony and reception can lead to a lot of problems for portraits. We will minimize any drive time between the ceremony and photo location (if this applies) to minimize this from happening so everyone can have a great time when portraits are done!

Photos take roughly one hour to complete (all together) of bridesmaids, groomsmen, the whole gang and portraits of the two of you. Think of each section in 15 minute intervals.

BRIDAL PARTY PORTRAIT TIPS

and what to know

Need we say more? Not only is this an affordable option, but it’s also a crowd favorite. The bubbles stay in the air for a while, making it easy for us to effortlessly photograph you as you walk into the next chapter of your life together!

BUBBLES

Whether you jump into a 1950s classic car or a sleek limo, you’re sure to turn heads as you leave your ceremony. Your bridal party can decorate the car before they bust a move. Don’t forget to have “Just Married” painted on the windows!

DRIVE OFF IN STYLE

Grand exits with sparklers make for some of really fun photos. Make sure you purchase extra-long 36” smokeless sparklers and designate a few members of your bridal party to help with lighting them before your exit.

MAKE A GRAND EXIT

immediately after your ceremony

We’ve seen KB couples use anything from rice to dried flowers to colorful, hand-cut confetti right after tying the knot. There are countless ways to celebrate being newlyweds! If you need help with the perfect exit, we’ll brainstorm with you.
